Breast Augmentation
General information about breast augmentation
Requests for breast implants for aesthetic purposes are sharply increasing.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can be supported by Social Security, except in exceptional cases of breast agenesis requiring a prior agreement notice by the medical council.
Breast implants used are pre-filled silicone gel and can be round or anatomical. In 80% of cases, I use round implants, usually positioned in front of the muscle for a more natural look. The position of the prosthesis behind the muscle is restricted to very thin women with small breasts who want a significant breast augmentation. In these rather rare cases, the prosthesis is not covered at the top and would be too visible beneath the skin.

The surgical procedure for breast enlargement
The incisions used to place the implants can be periareolar, inframammary fold, axillary or under the arm. In most cases, if the anatomical conditions permit, i use a small incision in the inframammary fold which is almost invisible. (see photos + video)
The duration of the procedure is one and a half hours, hospitalization is twenty four to forty eight hours (overnight).
A drain is placed during surgery to prevent the formation of hematoma.
It is usually removed the next day before leaving.
Antibiotics are prescribed during surgery to prevent infection around the implant.

Postoperative breast augmentation
The postoperative results are already very significant the day after the operation.
The post-operative pain is significantly less when the implant is placed in front of the muscle.
The resumption of work is possible between the 3rd and 5th postoperative day.
A reaction to the foreign body, unforeseeable in time, can occur with all types of implants in less than 5% of cases. The breast becomes hard, gradually changes its shape to spherical and becomes painful. Massaging breast implants is recommended at this stage, every day for 10 to 15 minutes. In some rare cases a reoperation is suggested.
A bra and a compression bandage is prescribed for a month.
The final outcome is usually acquired within two to three months.
A regular radiology examination will be carried out annually.
The life span of breast implants is commonly accepted to be fifteen or twenty years with new implants.
