Breast Augmentation

Hyaluronic acid injections have been banned in breasts since September 2011.

Only surgical methods can be proposed to achieve breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation by Silicone gel prostheses has been reauthorized in France since January 2001.

Requests for breast prostheses in physiological serum have become exceptional. These prostheses, the only ones used between 1995 and 2001, gave many folds around the prosthetic by progressive leakage of physiological serum. These breast prostheses will be progressively changed after 2001 for cohesive silicone gel prostheses giving a more flexible and natural appearance of the breast.

The latest generation breast prostheses, pre-filled with cohesive Silicone, currently respond very reassuring to over 90% of my breast augmentation requests.

Since November 2011, it is also possible to increase the breast volume using autologous grease injections from the patient.

This technique also called lipofilling allows in certain very precise conditions to fill the breasts with your own fat and at the same time to benefit from a lipo-aspiration of the localized excess grease of your body. This new strategy of breast augmentation by lipofilling or injection of autologous fat, is an interesting technique requiring close collaboration with medical experts in breast pathology.

Requests for breast augmentation by lipofilling are increasing steadily and should continue to increase significantly in the coming years.

Requests for breast implants for aesthetic purposes are sharply increasing.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and can be supported by Social Security, except in exceptional cases of breast agenesis requiring a prior agreement notice by the medical council.

Breast implants used are pre-filled silicone gel and can be round or anatomical. In 80% of cases, I use round implants, usually positioned in front of the muscle for a more natural look. The position of the prosthesis behind the muscle is restricted to very thin women with small breasts who want a significant breast augmentation. In these rather rare cases, the prosthesis is not covered at the top and would be too visible beneath the skin.

For a breast augmentation with an aesthetic purpose by prosthetic or by injection of autologous fat, 2 consultations with a minimum period of 15 days are mandatory and necessary.

During the first consultation, a clinical examination and accurate interrogation make it possible to retain the ideal mammary prosthesis most adapted to the patient’s morphology and to the anatomy of the pre-existing chest.

Testing prostheses are used in consultation to help select the desired implant volume.

Enlightened consent is provided to the patient along with an accurate and detailed estimate during this first consultation.

The second mandatory consultation allows for the collection of informed consent and the signed quote from the patient as well as the completion of mandatory pre-op photographs.

The definitive choice of breast prostheses is made during this second consultation.
